Boat making with different materials

To finish our science topic all about “Everyday Materials”, year 2/3 used their knowledge of materials and their properties to design and construct some sailing vessels!

We collected materials and worked out which ones were waterproof and which would absorb liquids. Then the children worked in pairs to design a boat that would float on water, would be waterproof and hold Patrick the puffin safely!

Testing our boats on the water was great fun and they all were fairly successful and waterproof (until a ‘rainstorm’ hit the cardboard sails!) Well done year two and three for building some great boats!
