Year 2 and 3 have really enjoyed learning about forces and magnets this term, so last week we discussed how a magnet was very similar to a compass and that we could make our very own compasses. We did this by magnetising a needle and then floating it on water.

It took a lot of care and skill, but all of year 2 and 3 managed to make a working compass and use them to find where north was accurately! We checked our compasses worked by using a proper compass to double check which way was north. It was a very fun and informative afternoon!
