On Monday 16th November, the Year 4 and 5 children were challenged to deliver and egg safely to the ground when dropped from a height. The children worked in pairs to plan, design and make their ‘egg parachutes’ before testing their creations in the year 4/5 outdoor area.
The children had great fun experimenting with different materials and testing their designs. Following the activity the children evaluated their designs, thinking about which elements worked and which didn’t, what problems they encountered and how they overcame them, and what they would do differently if they were to do the challenge again.
Many of the children used balloons in their designs, remarking that it would act as a ‘hot air balloon’ which they discovered not to be the case! Others used bin bags to create a parachute and padded egg box to protect the egg during the drop.
Well done year 4 and 5!
