Today year 2 and 3 have been investigating how to build a strong structure. Their challenge, set at the beginning of the year, is that there needs to be a permanent way for people on the Isle of Struay, to cross the village bay to get from the shop and post office to the lady artist’s and back again. They came up with many ways in which they could cross the village bay, including surf boards, boats, jet packs, bridges, submarines and more. But as one child said “Think of the Grannies!”
The children have done initial designs and today set the challenge to investigate materials, joining and shapes. They then recorded their investigations and will use what they have discovered to inform their final designs and when making their structures.
