Switch Off Fortnight (20 Nov – 3 Dec 2017)

Following an Environmental Review carried out by our Eco Council (made up of children from Years 1-6), the children have chosen to participate in Switch Off Fortnight this year in order to improve habits in the school and at home with regard to saving energy.

Over the course of the two weeks, our Eco Councillors will be educating their teachers and classmates about the importance of switching off lights and electrical appliances when they are not being used and will be encouraging everyone to try this at home!

Our Eco Councillors will be going undercover to carry out ‘secret’ audits of each classroom at the beginning and end of the fortnight and will be looking to see if appliances and lights are being switched off when not in use.  There will be an award for the class which has shown the most improvement in saving energy over the course of the fortnight.

The council will also be running a competition open to all members of the school.  Children will be asked to design a poster to encourage others to save energy.  The council will be selecting the winners.  Watch this space for more information nearer the time…
