Continuing our work with sculpture, year 2/3 have spent the last two weeks studying the work of Barbara Hepworth. We have enjoyed looking at all the different abstract sculptures she makes out of bronze, wood and stone.

We worked in groups to make our own versions of Hepworth’s sculptures out of play dough, focusing on all the different 3D shapes she uses in her work. It was very good practise for learning about shapes and working out how to create strong sculptures.

Then we created our own Hepworth inspired pieces out of clay. This was great fun! The whole class worked really hard and produced some amazing abstract sculptures. If you haven’t ever been to Yorkshire sculpture park before, you’ll certainly feel like you’ve been once you visit our “Sutton Sculpture Park”.
