Year 2 and 3 have been reading the traditional tale “The King of the Birds” this week. We have all enjoyed the story and how the clever, little wren became the king of all the birds.

We decided to have our own debate about which bird should be king and so all the children had a different bird to role play as and then they had to present their arguments for why they should be the king/queen of the birds. There were some very good reasons and lots of discussion and debate about which bird would be the best leader!

After everyone had made their speeches, we took a democratic vote and it was a tie between the owl and the eagle. We decided that to make it fair, we would have a queen and king of the birds to rule the land together! Excellent writing, debating and listening by all, well done year 2 and 3!
